Every baby reacts differently, and that’s part of the magic. Some dive straight in, others are a little more curious, but no matter how they approach it, we’ll capture every adorable expression.

Once your little one has had their fun with the cake and made plenty of mess, we move on to the splash session. Warm water, bubbles, and a little bath time fun usually bring out big smiles. Parents are welcome to join in, helping make this part even more playful and relaxed.

We can tailor each session to your preferred theme or colour scheme or something totally unique. Just share your ideas and we’ll bring the setup to life!

What is a cake smash photoshoot?

A cake smash photoshoot is a themed portrait session to celebrate your baby turning one. Your child gets to explore, play with, and smash a birthday cake while we capture every joyful and messy expression. It's a fun, relaxed way to mark a special milestone with stunning images you'll cherish forever. There are three sections to our cake smash sessions, the first is a little portrait with the ONE blocks to help little one get used to the new environment, then we introduce the cake and get messy. After this we let them splash in a mini bath/tub.

How to prepare for your cake smash session?

A well-rested, fed baby is a happy baby! Try to schedule the session after a nap. Some babies dive right in, while others are more cautious—it’s all part of the fun! We aim to capture authentic moments, whether it’s giggles, mess, or curiosity. No need to worry if they don’t "smash" the cake straight away. If your baby tends to get fussy while teething, you may want to give them baby-safe pain relief (as advised by your GP or health visitor) about 30–60 minutes before the session. This can really help them relax and enjoy the experience.

When should I book my baby’s cake smash session?

We recommend booking your cake smash session at least a month in advance (especially if you are wanting a new theme, and it also gives us time to secure a cake!). If you’d like the photos back for you little ones birthday, please let us know via email. Book early, especially for weekend availability!

Is the cake included in the session?

We provide a basic designed cake to match your theme from a local cake maker. There may be an additional cost if you are wanting a more elaborate cake. If your child has allergies or dietary needs, we advise providing your own cake. We’re happy to recommend trusted cake maker.

Can I choose a theme or colour scheme?

Yes! If it's a new theme you can't see on our social media, please let us know well in advance so we can create the perfect theme for you. This may come at an additional cost, so please email us.

What should my baby wear for the photoshoot?

We suggest dressing your baby in a cute, comfortable outfit that suits the theme, please try it on little one to make sure it fits. Many parents opt for a romper. We do have some outfits to match the themes we have, we would be happy to send you photos, just ask. You can have a change of outfit for the portrait and cake smash if you wish. Please bring a change of clothes for little one after the session and also yourselves as it can get messy when little one wants a cuddle during the session!

Do you provide outfits?

Yes, we have a selection of outfits that match some of our themes, we are happy to send you photos of what we had and sizes.

What if my baby doesn’t like the cake?

Every baby is different! Some dive right in, others are more cautious. If your baby isn’t a fan of the cake, we still capture lots of beautiful photos with natural reactions. Bringing a favourite snack or toy can help ease them in. Lots of parents bring veg stick crisps which are great to put in the back of the cake so little ones start playing with the cake.

Can parents and siblings be included?

We typically focus solely on your little one during the cake smash session, as the combination of portraits, cake smash, and splash can be quite a lot for them. However, if you’d like to include a family or sibling photo, we’re happy to do this at the start of the session—just let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly and allow enough time. There will be an additional charges for this as an extra. Please email us for information.

How long does a cake smash session last?

A typical cake smash session lasts around 45–60 minutes, which includes time for prortrait, cake fun, splash and cleanup. We keep it relaxed and baby-led throughout.

Where do your cake smash sessions take place?

At our studio based in Mold, North Wales.

What should I bring with me to the session?

We recommend bringing:

• Childs outfit for session and a change to go home in (and for yourself! or wear something you don't mind getting cake on!)
• Baby wipes and a towel
• Swim nappy
• Favourite snack (veg sticks etc) or toy
• Drink for little one
• Any personal props you’d like included (please tell us and send photos in advance so we can plan them in)
• Please bring your own bubble bath if little one has any skin allergies

How do I book a cake smash photoshoot?

Booking is simple! Just use our online enquiry form, send us a message on social media, or call us directly. We’ll confirm availability, discuss your theme, and send over the booking details. We require a non refundable £99 session fee which secures your slot in the diary and the cake. This gets taken off your chosen collection at your viewing session.

What happens after my session?

After your session, you’ll be invited back to the studio for a personalised viewing and ordering session. This is where you’ll select your favourite images and choose your collection. The viewing typically takes place within six weeks of your photoshoot, although we always aim to deliver sooner where possible, depending on our current workload.
